#VerseLove Day 9, Birds Are So Smart

Red-Tailed Hawk

you perch high up
posture erect
eyes darting left
and right and left

movement of prey
catches your eye
you lift off and
silently glide

plunge at great speed
talons sink deep
lighting again
to enjoy lunch

unknown to you
eighteen new homes
will extinguish
your habitat

I hate when I am being prescient, knowing that encroaching development is going to adversely impact the natural habitats of animals. You capture the beauty of the hawk, and its perils.

Yes, Kevin, my heart is hurting to see all the critters, large and small, whose lives are going to be interrupted (again).
